![]() ![]() I go to the brow queen Kim O’Sullivan for this amazing, custom treatment and she’s changed my brow life. Third all-time favourite service: Hybrid Brows I never really realise just how much better until it wears off after about four months. The effect is natural yet just makes me look TONS better. I get a few dots high up close to my hairline, two in the middle of my forehead, and one between my brows. What I get now (by the fabulous Dr Emma ) isn’t much, as in my forehead still moves. I’ve had great Botox and I’ve had terrible Botox where I had literal horns above my eyebrows and hid away for three months. My pet peeve is when ever-youthful A-listers claim they’ve never had Botox. It’s my go-to for events and shoots, and you can get matched at Planet Beauty in Brown Thomas. If you don’t want to commit to bonds 24/7, I can’t recommend the Gold Fever one piece enough either. She blends three or four colours so my hair looks expensive and multi-faceted. I get 5-6 months out of a full head, applied by the wonderful Edel Hunter. Thanks to extensions, I have the long, thick hair I’ve always felt I deserved (LOL) and Gold Fever are the gold standard - minute bonds, excellent quality ethically-sourced human hair and a fabulous colour range. It is fine, oily and has no discernible texture or even colour of its own besides mousy. Naturally, I am not blessed with my hair. The only time I have been without them is during the worst of the pandemic, and I was bereft. I first got hair extensions in April 2016, and I have never looked back. So after 15 years writing beauty on and off, what are my holy grail items? What will I purchase until the end of time, regardless of price? And what are my most beloved treatments and services? At this time of year when we turn away from freckly natural vibes and require a bit of help not looking pasty, dry and lifeless, well, this info is needed in spades.Īll-time favourite service: Gold Fever Hair ![]() And sure that’s what this space is for - sharing all the bits I want to write about that don’t fit anywhere else! These days, I pen a monthly Irish-only beauty column for You Magazine and while it scratches the itch, I do sometimes long to wax lyrical about the international products I adore. I hosted almost eighty episodes of a beauty podcast called The Glow Up, and wrote a weekly column for TVNow up until last Christmas. I kept up the beauty beat over the years alongside myriad other roles, even when I was editor in chief of STELLAR and MD of VIP Publishing. KISS had a bible of budget and free beauty tips, my favourite of which has always been - “if your fake tan is tragic, go for a swim! It’s magic!” because it’s true - chlorine will strip your tan quite a bit, and any dodgy bits can be patched with instant.īudgets constraints have been a thing in Irish publishing for as long as I can remember, so professional full-time beauty editors are a rarity these days - I know of only a handful. It was so fun, and I absolutely adored calling in products on a particular theme and trialling all of the new releases. We’d photograph trends, cast reader models to display them, publish how tos on everything from cat eye liner to a fish tail plait and I even had my own monthly mascara column. When I took over a deputy editor of the mag, the beauty remit fell entirely to me and that’s where my interest really grew. ![]() A colleague called Nathalie started in KISS about a year after me she was really in to photography and shooting product, and she very kindly taught me everything she knew - how to artfully smash an expensive bronzer with craft knives and arrange a smear so it would look amazing on the page (even though the very act broke my heart), how to artfully review an item, and the ethics and practices of critiquing products and services. Growing up I always loved makeup more than fashion (hey, it always fits) but I don’t think I realised that you could actually become a professional beauty journalist and expert until well after I scored my first magazine job. Build up the coverage as desired for a customized look that suits your style.I sort of fell in to beauty writing. The creamy texture glides effortlessly, ensuring a seamless application.
